#MaxEntertainment: Kofi Kinaata explains why he switched from rap music

Date:

Celebrated Fante musician Kofi Kinaata has revealed that his song with Castro exposed him to a different audience, prompting him to switch from rap to singing.

He said the features he gained with Castro shaped his career and made him discover his other side, which he harnessed to fit the creative space.

The icon of “Team Move” noted that after the “Odo Pa” song, which featured him together with Asamoah Gyan, he realized that he was recognized as a singer rather than a rapper, hence his swift switch.

He was then encouraged to produce songs that would be best appreciated by the corporate audience he had been exposed to.

“After featuring Castro, I was exposed to a certain kind of corporate audience, and I also needed to craft something for them that they loved.

“It’s Fante rap, and people did not really understand the language, so you have to get some melodies, and my first singing also attracted more attention; people loved it, and it was moving faster than the rap music,” he said.

Kofi Kinaata maintained that his decision to switch from being a rapper was not motivated by a quest for money as it was perceived by many, stressing that it was a carefully thought-through decision to engage the corporate audience his craft was attracted to.

“No, it is not about money. Even the street guys and my fans are still aware that it is my music that is guiding their lives,” he added.

Kinaata is set to release his EP dubbed “Kofi OO Kofi” between May 3 and 10, after a decade in the music industry.

The EP was earlier scheduled to be released on his birthday, April 15, but did not manifest as planned.

Kofi Kinaata disclosed that the title of the EP was inspired by his fans and pledged to continue touching lives with his music.

“The direction is a lot: childhood stories, life lessons, hardship, partying, and the art of not giving a fuck. Aside from Efiekuma Broken Heart, there are also a lot of life stories,” he added.
