Some users of the MTN telecommunication network are allegedly unable to transfer money from their banks to their mobile money (Momo) wallet.
According to them, they were told by their banks that the problem was solely coming from the MTN network.
Speaking in an interview with max.com.gh in Accra on Wednesday, some of the users of the telecommunication network were told by the customer service of their banks that the system was down due to challenges MTN has encountered with the banking system.
Lina Agyei, a UBA customer who expressed frustration about the development, told this online media that she tried transferring money from her bank to her Momo wallet, but the feedback she constantly received was that the “transaction failed.”
“For three days, I want to use a convenient way to withdraw money from my UBA account into my wallet, the transaction failed. I called the office and I was told the problem was from the MTN service provider.
I was compelled to board a car to the bank to withdraw money since I had no money on me,” she stated.
Another customer from Carl Bank, Rose Obeng, indicated that she passed through a similar challenge and called on MTN as a matter of urgency to work on their services to make banking easier for Momo users.
Meanwhile, all efforts to get in touch with MTN to get to the bottom of the issue have proven futile.
However, speaking with some customer service providers at some banks in Accra, they attributed the challenges to MTN’s decision to elevate clients experience with the network.
They said there were many complaints filed by customers of the banks that they were deducted tax from their bank transactions to their own wallets.
The issue, they stated, was the reason MTN had shut down their banking system for Momo users to resolve the challenges associated with their Momo banking experience.
