BUSINESS: 2026 Utility Tariff Increases

Date:

There will be new tariff increases in both electricity and water effective January 1, 2026.

The approval of the new tariff by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) will see a 9.86% and 15.92% increase in electricity and water, respectively.

The new tariff was announced on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, by the PURC after the conclusion of the Multi-Year Tariff Review Order (MYTO) for the period 2026 to 2030.

The reviews were carried out in line with sections 3, 16, 17, 18, 20, and 21 of the PURC Act, 1997, Act 538.

Dr Shafic Suleman, Executive Secretary of the PURC, said that the Commission considered the expense of providing electricity to island settlements via mini-grids.
