MAX ENTERTAINMENT: Hiplife has no slot on digital distribution platforms – Fimfim

Date:

Music producer Fimfim has disclosed that the Hiplife music category is exempt from various online streaming and distribution platforms.

That, he said, has made it difficult for musicians singing Hiplife music to be identified on those digital platforms.

Speaking in an interview with Max Morning Dew in Accra on Friday, Fimfim disclosed that Boomplay, Spotify, and Deezer, among other digital platforms, did not have a special category for the Ghanaian Hiplife genre.

He said Hiplife musicians were now uploading Hiplife music under the afrobeat category and blamed the trend on the local musicians for abandoning the true Ghanaian musical genres to embrace foreign ones.

Fimfim stated that the act was putting Ghana in a box for foreigners to outshine since Ghanaians failed to secure their original musical genres.

“If you go to the distribution platforms, you will not find Hiplife because we did not protect it,” he lamented.

For the necessary steps to be taken to bring the Ghanaian-rich Hiplife genre onto the map, Fimfim said he and some individuals within the industry had a talk with Boomplay about including the genre.

“However, we were told that the genre category cannot be added at the moment since few are doing it. It’s sad, but the good news is that now they are aware there is a genre called Hiplife.

If we continue to promote and upload them, those distribution platforms will not have a choice but to create that category,” he added.

Fimfim then advised colleagues to revive  Hiplife music for it to gain recognition.
