MAX ENTERTAINMENT: Don’t neglect highlife music – Historian to musicians

Date:

Renowned historian, Yaw Frimpong Anokye has called on musicians not to neglect highlife music to embrace foreign genres.

According to him, some musicians view highlife as archaic and fail to promote the genre to contemporary society.

Speaking in an interview with Max Morning Dew in Accra, the historian who is also a lawyer said highlife music defines Ghanaian aesthetic culture and expressed an urgent need for the current musicians to promote it.

He said music is a symbol of identity, adding that “it should be able to define all aspects of the rich culture of Ghana and unforetold stories to promote our agenda.”

“This will teach this generation about customs and traditions and bring unity just like how musicians like Amakye Dede, E.T Mensah, and Nana Ampadu in the past used music to educate and entertain,” he said.

He expressed strong disapproval of some derogatory and profane words used by today’s musicians and termed them as uncultured.
