Media personality Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku has urged content creators to forge ahead and penetrate the global market with original content that promotes and projects the positive stories of Africa.
She challenged content creators not to be swayed by Western narratives but to independently create content that could depict authentic African culture to feed the global audience that was hungry for African stories.
“We must not be swayed by Western narratives. We must tell authentic African stories focusing on who we are as a people and the positive things happening on the African continent,” Naa Ashorkor said.
She observed that Africa has a rich culture and stories that need to be told by content creators to educate foreigners.
“Africa is more than people. It is about humanity and the wealth in our stories. Create TikTok videos about African stories and tell our stories better because African stories are best told by Africans,” Naa Ashorkor said.
She further intimated that telling African stories demanded the creators express that narrative through the wearing of African prints, African braids, and the speaking of a local language.
To her, that was the surest “way we get people from across the world to know our stories and who we are.”
