MAX BUSINESS: Ghana Announces Re-introduction Of Visa-on-Arrival From Dec 1

Date:

The government, through the Transport Ministry, has stated that, for travelers visiting Ghana over this holiday season, visas-on-arrival would once again be issued.

The decision, according to the Ministry, was made in consultation with the Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Tourism Ministries, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Tourism Authority.

Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah stated in a letter to all airlines that the project runs from Friday, December 1, through Sunday, January 14.

A portion of the statement stated, “Therefore, it would be appreciated if systems were updated to reflect this new arrangement, and those responsible for checking-in passengers traveling to Ghana were advised not to insist on entry visas prior to their boarding.”

He went on to say that the project’s goal is to assist the government’s ten-year “Beyond the Return” campaign, which provides African diasporans with the chance to “connect with their roots.”

Ghana has previously instituted the policy of requiring a visa upon arrival.

When it was originally implemented over the holidays last year, a sizable number of travelers from all over the world visited the nation.
