A 29-year-old man has been arrested for carrying around a mutilated corpse in his backpack belonging to his wife.

John Wambua was discovered by police officers at dawn while patrolling the streets of Huruma, a district of Nairobi in Kenya.

The officers, upon suspicion, decided to inspect the backpack only to find severed body parts.

According to the officers, the man revealed the body parts belonged to his 19-year-old wife, Joy Fridah Munani.

The Kenya National Police said nearly 97 women have been murdered between August and October 2024.

Kenya is now considered a country with a high number of killings of women.
