Maame Dokono launches memoir to mark her 80th birthday

The industry came to a standstill over the weekend to celebrate the legendary screen goddess, Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, during her 80th birthday.

Grace Omaboe used the occasion to launch her memoir, highlighting her achievements, challenges, triumphs, and advice that have brought her this far.

The event was a testament to Maame Dokono’s enduring legacy and impact on the Ghanaian entertainment industry.

The 80th celebration was marked at the Underbridge in East Legon, Accra, where various dignitaries and celebrities, including Adwoa Smart and Nana Ama McBrown, graced the occasion.

As part of the celebration, actress and television presenter Nana Ama McBrown took to the stage to pay tribute to her mentor, praising her for her contributions to the Ghanaian entertainment industry and her impact on her life.

In a surprise move, McBrown began to shower Grace Omaboe with cash and also presented her with a special gift to solidify their mentor-mentee relationship.

Maame Dokono’s career spans over five decades, being recognized for her efforts in promoting Ghanaian culture and arts, both locally and internationally, which has made an indelible mark on the entertainment scene.

Born on June 10, 1941, in Birim, North District of the Eastern Region, Maame Dokono began her career in the 1960s as a singer and actress.

She quickly gained popularity for her unique voice and captivating stage presence, releasing several hit songs that remained popular to this day.

Maame Dokono became a household name between the 1970s and 1980s after starring in numerous films and television shows.

Her iconic roles in productions such as “Obra” and “Keteke” introduced her to audiences across the country.

Throughout her career Maame Dokono has received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to the industry.
