Kadiogo eliminate Kotoko from CAF Champions League in full penalty shootout

Date:

After losing 3-1 on penalties to RC Kadiogo, Asante Kotoko was eliminated from the CAF Champions League’s group stage.

Despite having a 1-0 lead going into the second league, the two-time CAF Champions League champions Asante Kotoko exit the tournament after falling at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The game went to penalties following a 1-1 aggregate result in the two-legged contest, with a striker from the Burkina Faso team providing the difference.

Despite Danlad Ibrahim’s best efforts to save one penalty to aid his team, Asante Kotoko made a mess of themselves in the penalty shootouts with their “awful” kicks.

Asante Kotoko’s CAF Champions League campaign came to an end when Yussuf Mubarik scored his first goal but Solomon Sarfo Taylor, Osei Bonsu, and Enoch Morrison all missed their subsequent attempts.

Asante Kotoko’s hopes were dashed by RC Kadiogo on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, and they are now through to the next round of qualifying.
