About 13 people are feared dead and several others severely injured following a fatal crash at Amanase Estate Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 22, 2025. It involved a fuel tanker (GR 1300-16) heading towards Accra and a Sprinter bus (GW 6510-23) travelling in the opposite direction to Kumasi.
According to reports, the fuel tanker veered off its lane and collided head-on with the oncoming Sprinter bus.
ADO1 Akonnor Opare Ohene Daniel, Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service in Suhum, confirmed the number of casualties. He noted that several passengers were trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued.
In an interview, the tanker driver’s mate revealed he had fallen asleep during the journey and woke to find the vehicle had crossed into the opposite lane.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary.
