Jerry Afriyie scored a late penalty for Ghana to salvage a point in the WAFU Zone B qualifiers for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in a 2-2 draw against Benin.
Benin were having a 2-1 lead over the Black Meteors by halftime after coming from behind. 2023 African Games hero Jerry Afriyie gave Desmond Ofei’s side the lead before Benin struck twice to claim the lead.
Ghana went into the second half determined to earn maximum points but could only settle for one as the Beninoise team held their resolve even though conceding a 90+5 minute equalizer through the penalty spot.
The next round of matches in Group A will come off on Sunday in Lome, Togo, as Ghana faces Niger.
