GPL Matchday 2 review: WAFA hold Hearts, Kotoko, King Faisal pick up wins

Week 2 of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL)  saw some very interesting results being recorded across all venues.

Kotoko and King Faisal continued their fine form and picked up wins but reigning Champions Hearts of Oak were held to a 1-1 draw against WAFA.

WAFA 1-1 Hearts of Oak

Hearts who drew their opening game went into this game with high hopes and that paid off as Kofi Kodzi put them ahead on the stroke of half time.

They were pegged back in the second half as Sampson Agyapong made it 1-1. No more goals were recorded and the Phobians left with a point.

Legon Cities 3-2 RTU

The Royals have vowed to make their home advantage coun this season and they di exactly just that against newly promoted Real Tamale United.

Defender Joseph Adjei gave Legon Cities the lead before Abagna leveled for RTU in the 29th minute. Nat Akwa curled in a beautiful freekick to make it 2-1 to Legon Cities before Johan Attuquaye scored the third.

RTU won a penalty in the dying embers of the game and Abagna scored as the game ended 3-2.

Ashatigold 1-1 Karela United

Ashgold failed to get their first win over Karela at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

Karela opened the scoring through Hamie Dafie before Isaac Agyemang scored from the spot kick to make it 1-1.

Kotoko 2-0 Bechem United

Kotoko returned to the Baba Yara Stadium in some style, two late goals saw them beat Bechem United to see them win their first two games.

Isaac Oppong who was introduced into the game in the second half won a penalty which defender Ganiu scored and Samuel Boateng put the icing on the cake with a powerful header.

Aduana Stars 1-3 King Faisal

Shocker at Dormaa Park as King Faisal defied all odds to beat Aduana at home. Aduana had gone 46 home games without a defeat.

Former Kotoko striker Ibrahim Osman scored the first gal of the game for King Faisal but Adom Frimpong made it 1-1 for Aduana.

Amat Latf scored a stunner in the 68th minute before Osman scored his second to see King Faisal record a famous victory at Dormaa.

Berekum Chelsea 0-0 Elmina Sharks

Berekum Chelsea and Sharks failed to break each other’s resolve as they game ended goalless.

Great Olympics 3-1 Accra Lions

Great Olympics made their experience count as they beat newly promoted Accra Lions 3-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A wonderful striker from Maxwell Abbey Quaye put Olympics ahead but Lions pulled parity through Richmo0nd Tetteh Ankrah.

Maxwell capitalized on a mistake by goalkeeper Appiah Kubi and made it 2-1 to Olympics before scoring a penalty late on to make it 3-1.

Medeama 1-1 Bibiani Gold Stars

Medeama were looking for their first win of the season after their defeat last week at Bechem.

Ahmed Simba Toure scored a worldie late in the game and Medeama were heading towards victory but Joshua Akoto equalized for Gold Stars in added time.
