The Communications Director at the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum, has provided an enlightenment over the peculiar fitness situation of Black Stars midfielder Majeed Ashimeru.
Formerly of West Africa Football Club and Red Bull Salzburg, Majeed Ashimeru, currently plying his trade with Belgian giants Anderlecht, suffered a career-altering injury at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where Ghana endured a disappointing group stage exit.
Ashimeru sustained a number of injuries that affected his performances on the pitch but have been instrumental so far for his club, who are treating the Ghanaian international with immense care, not overloading him with so many training sessions.
Henry Asante Twum, speaking to Max FM, revealed that though the Black Stars player has been playing well, he isn’t back to the usual level he is well known for.
“Ashimeru, since recovering from his long injury layoff from the 2023 AFCON, has been under the injury management spectrum. This means he is not supposed to be overloaded with lots of sessions. That is what is happening at Anderlecht,” he said.
“He [Ashimeru] is not at his usual high level,” Asante Twum opined ahead of Ghana’s clash against Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan on Thursday, October 10.
