Black Stars defender and Columbus Crew Captain Jonathan Mensah has been unveiled as the Ambassador for “African Communities Champions League”.
The project which is an initiative of Books & Boots, will officially be launched today in the Okere District of the Eastern region.
Twelve Junior High schools will be competing in the maiden pilot edition in including Nifa Community JHS, Bethel JHS, Apirede Presby, Great Future JHS, Apirede Adukrom Methodist JHS and Gyau Preparatory JHS.
The launch will be under the auspices of Okogyeahene Otuafom Saforo Okoampah III
Chief of Apirede.
Also attendance will be the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee Ben Nunoo Mensah and the Chief Executive of Okere District Hon Nana Kenneth Dan Addo.
Books and Boots have been organizing reading, coaching and soccer clinics across Ghana since 2010 and will be launching replica projects in Liberia, Togo, Sierra Leone and Nigeria in 2022.

As someone who has benefited from education and soccer back home in Ghana, I feel honored and blessed to be the Ambassador for this awesome Books & Boots Project
In life, education is key, no matter how basic and for millions of aspiring young footballers, it is even more important.
Basic academic skills such as literacy and numeracy will give our youngsters the confidence they need to read, write and express themselves as they mature, even if they do not make it as professional footballers in future.
Today, by God’s grace, I am captain of a Major League Championship Club in the USA, thanks to my educational and footballing foundation in Ghana.
This is why I accepted to be Books & Boots Ambassador to support this fantastic initiative in our classrooms, on our soccer fields and most importantly in our Communities.
With the possibility of Scholarships for talented children, Books and Boots is the way forward as far as education and sports is concerned.
Let us all help prepare the next generation through education and recreation.
