A partnership between Ghanaian company PKA Export and Import and a Chinese manufacturer will see the establishment of an assembly plant in Ghana.
The agreement will have the Chinese firm, Polyrock, set up an assembly plant for electric vehicles in Ghana after signing a Memorandum of Understanding.
Prince Asare, Executive Chairman of PKA, disclosed the construction of the plant would be completed before the end of the year.
A target of 5,000 vehicle units is expected in the first year, then increases to 20,000 in subsequent years, with more than 1,000 direct jobs to be created.
The Chairman of Sinotruck, Mr Zou Pinchun, said Ghana was chosen for the company’s first African factory because of its fast-growing economy and promising automobile market.
