Former CAF Africa Cup of Nations winner Wilberforce Mfum has passed away at the golden age of 88.
The legendary Black Stars player died in the early hours of Sunday, May 11, 2025.
National Sports Authority Director General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, confirmed his friend’s (Mfum) passing in a social media post.
Before moving to the United States of America to continue his career in 1968, Mfum starred for Asante Kotoko after joining in November 1962.
Mfum played for the Ghana Olympic football team at the 1964 Summer Olympics. He scored twice in the Black Stars’ 3-0 win over Sudan in the final of the 1963 AFCON at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The late forward scored an impressive 20 goals in 26 appearances for the Black Stars of Ghana.
