Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minister for finance, has once again stated the administration of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama would abolish the “Betting Tax” and E-Levy.
The finance minister was presenting the 2025 budget statement and economic policy at the Parliament House of Ghana on March 11, 2025.
President Mahama assured Ghanaians during his campaign to be president, of his administration’s willingness to scrap two taxes—the 10 percent withholding tax on betting winnings and the Electronic Transactions Levy, which have caused great concern since its implementation by the Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.
“We will abolish the 10 percent withholding tax on winnings from lottery, otherwise known as the “Betting Tax”; we will abolish the Electronic Transfer Levy (ELevy) of 1 percent,” he said.
This move, according to Dr. Forson, would ease the cost of living and restore confidence in the economy.
The Emission Levy on industries and vehicles, VAT on motor vehicle insurance policy, and 1.5 percent on winning of unprocessed gold by small-scale miners will also be abolished though, the timeframe for these actions remains unknown.
