The legal advisor of the embattled Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has revealed that he will not appear before the Parliament of Ghana.
There have been calls for Mr Ampofo Ankrah to present himself before the August House for questioning regarding reports of a major visa scandal.
The minority caucus of parliament are championing a call for further investigations and prosecution of both Mr Ampofo Ankrah and Sports Minister Hon. Kofi Adams.
Trained as a journalist, Mr Ampofo Ankrah became the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) in March 2025.
Fast-forward to August 2026: rumours began circulating about fraudulent visa activities involving questionable characters within the NSA and an event-organising company called TRIBE Fest Culture.
On October 1, the President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, ordered his suspension pending investigations, as Prof. Emmanuel Osei was appointed on that same day to act as an interim Director General of the NSA.
Brookman-Amissah and Associates, legal advisors of the now suspended NSA boss, issued a statement, insisting it would be imprudent for him to appear before parliament while the CID of Police continues with investigations.
Adding to that, the lawyers cautioned that his current position on the request to appear before parliament must not be perceived as a refusal to “submit to any lawful process or to account to any constitutionally mandated institutions.”
The former BBC journalist, since the scandal came to light, has maintained his innocence and is willing to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations.
