Kumawood actor and film producer, Kwadwo Nkansah known in the industry as Lil Win has had his GH¢5 million defamation lawsuit stay of proceedings application dismissed by an Accra High Court.
In addition to it, the Court also awarded a cost of GH¢5,000 against him after dismissing the request.
The legal team led by Ms. Claudia Coleman, who was holding brief for substantive counsel Margaret Agyei Twum, told the court that the motion for the stay of proceedings has become necessary due to an interlocutory appeal at the Court of Appeal to find an appropriate venue for the case.
“Since the venue or jurisdiction is an issue which goes to the root of this case, we pray this court to grant our prayer since failure of it will cause severe hardship to the applicant (Lil Win), especially in the case where the interlocutory appeal is granted, which we believe has a likelihood of success,” she argued.
However, Justice Forson Baah Agyapong, the sitting judge, said there were no exceptional circumstances professed by the applicant (Lil Win) for the application to be granted.
The request was refused with a cost of GHc5,000 awarded against Lil Win in favor of respondent Martha Ankomah after the Counsel of the respondent vehemently opposed the application due to Lily Win’s frequent court absence, and also not settling the conditions for the compilation of his appeal on time.
Meanwhile, Ankomah filed the GH¢5 million defamation suit against Lil Win over alleged disparaging comments he made about her in public.
