Amir Abdou, the French-Comoron coach, has decided to extend his contract through 2026 in order to continue leading Mauritania’s senior national squad.
The former Comoros coach, prior to his extension, had been linked to the vacant Black Stars head coach position since the sacking of Chris Hughton.
Following an outstanding performance in this year’s AFCON, when he stunned North African powerhouse Algeria, Abdou will be leading the Mauritanians to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
In the 2021 AFCON held in Cameroon, he also guided Comoros to its first-ever round of 16 appearance after defeating Ghana.
The Ghana Association will now have to focus on other candidates for the head position of the Black Stars.
