All eyes were on Andre Onana before Manchester United‘s first leg of their Europa League quarter-final in Lyon.
He had said in the lead up to the game that United were the “better team”, which former Red Devils midfielder Nemanja Matic – now playing for Lyon – was unhappy about.
The Serb international responded with his jibe about Onana being “one of the worst Manchester United goalkeepers” in his pre-match news conference, which put the spotlight on the Cameroonian’s less-than-flattering statistics since his move from Inter Milan last season.
During the past two seasons, Onana has made eight errors leading to goals in the Premier League, more than any other keeper in the English top-flight.
He also has the worst minutes per goal conceded ratio of all Manchester United keepers with 10 or more Premier League appearances.
The 29-year-old will have hoped to avoid yet more headlines in Lyon, but his latest mistakes in a United shirt will only add pressure on his position at Old Trafford.
