Former Arsenal, Man City, and Real Madrid forward Emmanuel Adebayor reveals how he influenced Marvin Senaya to play for Ghana.

The AJ Auxerre right-back opted to play for the Black Stars of Ghana despite being eligible for Togo.

The 25-year-old went on to feature in all four of Ghana’s matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to 3Sports, the Togo national team legend Adebayor said he encouraged the defender to seize what he believed was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“I was the one who made the decision for him, actually,” Adebayor said.

“I told him there is no other choice. This is the only chance you have [to play for Ghana] because this [World Cup] can be your major tournament in your life.”

Adebayor added that he was delighted to see Senaya’s contribution during the tournament.
