Legendary Ghanaian football coach Oti Akenteng has jumped to the defence of local coaches and their capability for national duties.
Since the tenure of James Kwesi Appiah, no local coach has been afforded the opportunity to become the head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana.
While the search for the next head coach goes on, a three-man technical team led by Ghana Black Queens’ Swedish head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren will handle the Black Stars against Somalia in November.
“There are local coaches who are capable of coaching the Black Stars,” he told Asempa FM, taking a stand for the locally-bred coaches.
“If they are always overlooked, that is a sign of disrespect, and if the local coaches are not respected, they will not have an interest in coaching,” he added.
Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko and Attram de Visser boss Godwin Attram are the local coaches tasked to support the Swedish gaffer to lead the Black Stars.
