Ghana Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has revealed why talisman, Mohammed Kudus will not be available.
The Black Stars are targeting a return to Africa’s biggest football event, the Africa Cup of Nations after woefully failing to qualify the last edition.
Kudus was initially named in the 24-man squad announced last Friday by the Ghana Football Association for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers and international friendly against Morocco.
The Tottenham Hotspur star, only after playing just 70 minutes of football in the season for the first time since a seven-month injury hell was expected to feature for Ghana.
However, it was announced on Monday morning that Derby County loanee, Mohamed Fuseini, will take the place of the former Ajax player.
“We are not coaches of the clubs, we can’t control their decisions. It looked like Kudus was moving in the right direction. But later, after playing 70-something minutes, the news was not progressing as expected.
“In my final conversation with Kudus, we realised the best decision was to protect his recovery process. He can take the risk of a step-back, and nobody wants that. We hope with more training and games in the next round, Kudus will be ready,” Queiroz said.
The Black Stars of Ghana will begin their qualifiers away against the Ivory Coast on Thursday before locking horns with The Gambia in Accra three days later.
