The famous highlife legend Ebo Taylor was laid to rest in a grand funeral ceremony on Saturday, August 1, in his hometown, Saltpond, in the Central Region.

The funeral, which brought together friends, families and loved ones, saw performances from Pat Thomas, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Rocky Dawuni, Smart Nkansah, among others.

‎It also saw the presence of Kofi Kinaata and other superstars, including Tsatsu Tsikata.

‎The final funeral rites followed a wake-keeping held at the late musician’s residence on Friday.

‎Family members overcame their emotions during the church service whilst the pallbearers carried the late celebrated musician’s casket to the hearse in their trademark style.

‎After church service mourners moved to Victoria Park for a celebration of Ebo Taylor’s life.

‎Known privately as Deroy Taylor, he died on February 7, 2026, at age 90 in Saltpond.

‎Ebo Taylor gained prominence in the industry in the 60s, with a career spanning six decades.

‎He gained global recognition for blending highlife with Afrobeat, jazz and funk and has worked with great musicians, including Fela Kuti.
