Ghana’s swimming team wrapped up its Day Two campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with determined performances in both the individual and relay events, gaining valuable international experience against some of the strongest swimming nations in the Commonwealth.

Commonwealth Games debutant Ivan Snowden opened Ghana’s day in the men’s 50m freestyle, clocking 24.66 seconds in Heat 5. The time was not enough to secure a place in the semi-finals, with Snowden finishing 48th overall out of 68 competitors, but the 20-year-old showed promise in his first appearance on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

Attention then shifted to the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay, where Ghana fielded a quartet of Ivan Snowden, Abeiku Jackson, Nubia Adjei, and Unilez Takyi. Swimming in Heat 3 in lane 1, the team battled against powerhouse nations including Australia, Canada, England, Scotland, and South Africa, finishing fifth out of five teams in the heat.

The Ghanaian relay team recorded a time of 3:53.60, placing 15th overall among the 18 competing nations and missing out on qualification for the final. Despite the result, the team gained valuable exposure competing against some of the world’s elite swimmers.

Although Day Two did not produce a medal or qualification to the next round, Ghana’s swimmers remain optimistic as the competition continues.

Abeiku Jackson, Nubia Adjei, Unilez Takyi and Ivan Snowden all have individual events still ahead, while the team will also compete in the mixed medley relay later in the Games.

With more races to come, Team Ghana will be hoping to build on the experience gained in the opening days and produce stronger performances as the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games progress.
