Two suspects have been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service, including the alleged gang leader after the attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus, which resulted in the death of one player.
While returning from a Ghana Premier League match at Samreboi on Sunday, 12th of April, 2026, when six armed men blocked the path of the team bus and opened fire at around 10:30 pm.
This caused the driver to veer off the road as players and officials fled into the bushes for safety, as 20-year-old Dominic Frimpong sustained gunshots, was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The police have arrested the gang leader and one other suspect in connection with the robbery incident that led to the death of the Berekum Chelsea footballer,” a statement shared on the Ghana Police Service Facebook account stated.
One of the suspects is under medical attention due to an exchange of fire with the police intelligence teams, which resulted in him sustaining injuries. “Further details will be communicated,” the statement added.
