Nana Poku Ashis, the manager of the late gospel singer Yaw Sarpong, has dismissed claims that the veteran musician was married to Maame Tiwaa.
According to him, the two were not a couple but were merely friends.
Speaking in a media interview to clear the popular belief that Yaw and Tiwaa were a couple, Ashis said the two were having platonic and working relationships and thus were never romantically involved.
They never dated, and they never got married. They just liked and cared for each other because of the work they were doing. They sang together, so anywhere they went, they went together to the extent that they lived in the same house,” he stated.
Ashis indicated that Yaw Sarpong and Tiwaa had known each other for 30 years and understood their core gospel assignment.
“They were just friends who understood each other very well, and they had been friends for over 30 years. When we talk about someone who understands another person well, then it’s Maame Tiwaa because she understood Yaw Sarpong really well. They were loyal to the core,” he added.
While Maame Tiwaa died on December 7, 2025, Yaw Sarpong also died on January 20, 2026, just a month after the demise of his companion, who took care of him during years of battling with a stroke.
