Renowned Adventist singer, Mark Anim Yirenkyi says it is about time the world stopped using the name Jesus Christ.
According to him, the name Jesus is a transliteration of “Yehoshua” or “Yeshua,” and expressed the need for Christians to use the original name.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday, the “Fakye” hitmaker indicated that the name “Yeshua” shouldn’t be translated.
”A name shouldn’t be translated. It should be maintained as it is because if I am called ‘Boafo’ and you call it ‘Boafa’ it means a different thing so the name should be maintained,” he said.
Mark Anim explained that Jesus came about when the meaning was translated in Greek.
”Jesus is the Greek Version of the name Yeshua. In the old testament that Greek translation was not used, the original name of Yeshua was maintained until we got to the new Testament where a Greek translation was used. Every word has its meaning, therefore when you change the sound it changes the original meaning. We don’t translate a name,” he explained.
Mark Anim therefore expressed the need for the world to go back to the original pronunciation of the name as that carried its original sound and meaning.
