Government Must Build Studios for Gh Artistes

Date:

Multiple award-winning musician Kofi Ntsi has called on the government to set up a studio that will only record highlife music in order to preserve the culture and identity of Ghanaians.

According to him, composing authentic highlife music in the country required lots of crafts, instruments, professional touches and works, hence his plea.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday, the musician known for his smash hit “Rakia” observed that the expensive nature of composing highlife music is dissuading many young musicians from embracing the genre.

“Lots of instruments go in the making of highlife songs. You need drums, acoustic guitar, bass, percussion (congas, bongos), brass (trumpets, trombones, saxophones) and keyboards, and then you will need someone to master it. The making of highlife songs is not that easy like the other genres that you will go to the studios and they’ll give you a computer beat. For Highlife, you will spend a lot,” he stated.

Against this backdrop, Kofi Ntsi stated that the only way to preserve the authentic highlife music was for the government to assist the musicians by setting up studios to promote highlife music while attracting young talents to embrace the genre.

“I would plead with President John Dramani Mahama to open a studio for musicians to cater to all those needs. This will help to preserve highlife music,” he added.
