It was an absolutely stunning encounter at the MetLife Stadium on Wednesday, July 9, as Paris Saint-Germain humiliated Real Madrid for a place in the FIFA Club World Cup final.
The European and French champions, PSG, handed the record European champions, Real Madrid, a real beatdown in front of an 82,500 crowd in New York to set up a mouthwatering climax with Chelsea on Sunday, July 13.
Spaniard creative midfielder Fabian Ruiz stunned Los Blancos with a 6th-minute strike before Ousmane Dembele added a quick second two minutes later courtesy of two clumsy defensive errors by Raul Acensio and Antonio Rudiger.
Ruiz completed his brace in the 24th minute following a piece of quick-thinking interplay between Achraf Hakimi and Dembele before rounding off with a smart finish past Thibaut Courtois in the Madrid goal.
Luis Enrique maintained PSG’s shape in the second half until deciding to replace Dembele, Doue, and Ruiz with Barcola, Goncalo Ramos, and Muyulu, who failed to disappoint.
Ramos completed a 4-0 final scoreline with a goal of his in the 89th minute and then paid a tribute to his recently departed Portugal teammate, Diogo Jota, by emulating his celebrations.
The nightmare for Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid was ended on the dot by the referee, sparing the Spanish team further embarrassment and knocking them back into reality.
