Date:

The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate has issued an alert over a recent resurgence of COVID-19 on on the Legon campus, and urged students, staff, and visitors to exercise caution amid reports of both suspected and confirmed cases within the university community.

In a public notice dated June 23, 2025, the Health Services Directorate warned of an uptick in cases and outlined a series of preventive measures aimed at curbing a potential outbreak.

These include the wearing of face masks in enclosed or crowded spaces, regular handwashing or use of alcohol-based sanitisers, maintaining a physical distance of at least one metre, and ensuring proper ventilation in offices and lecture halls.

The Directorate also advised individuals to avoid large gatherings where possible and to remain at home if they experience flu-like symptoms, stressing the importance of early medical intervention.

“The Health Services Directorate has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols, including screening and triage at our health facilities,” the statement read. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide regular updates.”

The notice comes as health officials worldwide continue to track new variants of the virus, with institutions and governments urged to remain vigilant and avoid complacency.
