Richie Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lynx Entertainment, has described the act of not allowing a musician to exit a record label as “selfishness”.
According to him, artistes should not stay with a record label permanently, especially when the artists can advance their career if they leave their record labels.
Speaking in a recent media interview, Richie said it was normal for artistes to think about leaving a label after they have advanced to a point where they could run their careers on their own.
“First of all, it would be selfish to say an artiste shouldn’t leave. The way a label- artiste contract works is that you bring someone on board, support them, and help them grow to a point where they can handle things on their own,” he said.
Richie indicated that grooming an artist to become a fully fledged musician was a way of helping the artist to stand on his or her own in navigating his or her path in the industry.
“At that stage, they don’t need as much support as they did in the beginning, so it’s up to them whether to continue with that support system or find their own path,” he added.
