Hon. Kofi Iddi Adams, minister for sports and recreation, has called for various club owners in Ghana to be educated in football management.
The minister made these remarks on the back of Nations FC’s decision to discontinue their matchday 33 encounter with Basake Holy Stars in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) on June 1.
Nations FC have since reacted to what transpired at CAM Park, insisting aside from the unfavourable refereeing decisions, the inadequate security presence at the match venue greatly influenced their decision to leave the pitch.
Reacting to the incidents on Sporty FM, Hon. Kofi Adams said, “I have not received a full briefing on what went on. However, investigations are ongoing. It is quite unfortunate that we would continue to have such situations.
What I have seen and know we must do is to have a proper education. Club owners and club managers need proper education.
Some of the club owners seem not to be up to the task. Management of some clubs seem not to understand and are clearly clueless about what football is all about.”
Hon. Adams further called for the punishment of club owners and managers for their involvement in bringing the beautiful game of football into disrepute if they are found guilty.
Dr Kwame Kyei, owner of GPL table toppers Nations FC, disheartened by the unfortunate events, threatened to disband the club and quit football if necessary changes aren’t effected.
