Black Stars no.1 goalie slot is yours forever – Mugabe blesses Asare

Date:

When the news of Benjamin Asare possibly keeping post in the Black Stars of Ghana’s game against Chad on Friday, March 21, broke, many doubted; some even suggested Lawrence Ati-Zigi remained in post.

Fatau Dauda, goalkeepers’ coach for the Black Stars, highly recommended Asare to head coach, Otto Addo, to start in post for the team. It was obvious Fatau saw what a host of keen-eyed observers noticed about the goalkeeper.

If Asare was ever told years back, when he almost called it quits in the stagnant period in his career, that he would be captaining the glorious Accra Hearts of Oak and defending the post for his beloved country, Ghana, he would never have believed it or even said in Ga, “je enɔ kɛ o buulu” (don’t b*llsh*t me).

On Wednesday, May 7, a day amongst the days the Hearts of Oak captain may never forget in his life, he was gifted a brand new Hyundai Elantra saloon car by business mogul, Seidi Agongo.

Mr Agongo was touched by viral video of the Black Stars number one goalkeeper commuting in a commercial vehicle. The video generated a lot of conversation on social media.

In his interaction with Asare, Mugabe Maase, an accomplished media practitioner, told Nana Darkwa Gyasi on Max FM’s Sports Pack show that he confessed his admiration for the humble, teary-eyed goalkeeper and said the number one goalkeeping position on the Stars is his forever.

Receiving plaudits for his displays in the two games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March 2025, Asare would be expected to remain post for the Unity Cup in London this month.
