Former Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Ben Nunoo Mensah has officially handed over leadership to Richard Akpokavie, following a short ceremony at the Olympic House in Ridge, Accra, on Monday.
After eight years at the helm, Mr. Nunoo Mensah transferred documents, keys, and equipment—including leftover kits from the Olympic and Commonwealth Games—to the new president, marking a smooth transition.
In his address, Mr. Nunoo Mensah urged the incoming leadership to build on his administration’s gains, with particular emphasis on continuing the OlympiAfrica Project in Amasaman. He congratulated Mr. Akpokavie and his team and wished them well in advancing Ghanaian sports.
As part of the handover, outgoing Treasurer Frederick Acheampong submitted financial records and assets to the new Treasurer, Evans Yeboah.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Akpokavie pledged to sustain and enhance the GOC’s legacy. He called for support from the Board, sports federations, and the media to elevate Ghana’s global sporting profile.
New Secretary General Mohammed Muniru also thanked the outgoing leadership and assured them of continued collaboration in the interest of Ghana sports development.
The ceremony was attended by GOC executives including Isaac Duah, Mawuko Afadzinu, Ernest Danso, Baba Fuseini, Nii Lante Bannerman, and Kamal Sulley.
