Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak have been knocked out of the 2024-25 MTN FA Cup.
The former winners of the competition were eliminated by an Access Bank Division One League side, Golden Kicks, in a penalty shootout at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Hearts of Oak clearly lacked sharpness in Sunday’s encounter against Golden Kick because the team has not been involved in any competitive game due to the 22-day hiatus of the league after the tragedy at Nsoatre.
Both sides went into the shootout following a drab goalless draw in regular time after failing to create meaningful chances in the game, as Theophilus Collison of Hearts was sent off in the second half.
The Phobians were unable to take advantage of Golden Kick’s missed penalty in their first attempt, missing twice themselves to hand a sweet victory to the Division One side.
