A fierce fire on the Agbogba-Ritz Junction Road near Madina, Accra, has ravaged multiple wooden and container structures, leaving several businesses and homes in ruins.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly, battling challenging conditions to contain the blaze. Spokesperson Alex King Nartey attributed the rapid spread to the flammable nature of the structures. “With many wooden and container structures packed together, the fire spread easily,” he explained.
At least 12 structures were partially burned, but firefighters managed to save over 50 nearby buildings. However, gaining access to locked containers, some with reinforced doors and air conditioning units, posed a major challenge.
The operation was further complicated by ECG poles in the area, with some firefighters experiencing electric shocks.
“The fire is now under control,” Nartey assured, though efforts continue to prevent reignition. The cause remains unknown.
