Wenchi SDA Church Honors 20 Girls for Maintaining Virginity

Date:

The Wenchi West District of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, part of the Mid-West Ghana Conference in the Bono Region, honored 20 girls over the weekend for preserving their virginity.

The girls, aged between 13 and 16, were awarded undisclosed sums of money for their upkeep during a thanksgiving service held alongside the Church’s first Sabbath Day celebration at Wenchi.

Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, the Wenchi West District Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, praised the girls for their commitment to maintaining their virginity and urged them to continue preserving it until marriage. “God created you uniquely beautiful, and you must not let anyone break your virginity before marriage,” she advised, encouraging the girls to be mindful of the friends they choose in 2025.

Mrs. Poku emphasized the ministry’s dedication to guiding girls and young women toward becoming responsible, valuable adults. She also highlighted the importance of revisiting traditional practices that protect girls from promiscuity, such as puberty rites. “The Bragoro or Dipo rite was crucial in preserving girls’ virginity and preventing teenage pregnancies that hinder the growth and development of young girls,” she explained.

Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyere, Associate Pastor of the Wenchi West District, also commended the girls for setting a strong example and urged all young girls in the Church to focus on remaining pure and prioritizing their education.

The honored girls expressed their gratitude for the recognition and thanked the Church for its support in their spiritual growth and development.
