On Super Sunday, December 14, 2024, there is the Manchester derby, the West London derby, and PSG battling Lyon, but the eyes of most Ghanaians will be fixed on the biggest fixture in the Ghanaian football league calendar.
As a non-Ghanaian, you may be wondering. Which fixture? One of the oldest rivalries in African club football, Asante Kotoko versus Hearts of Oak.
The build-up to this game, dubbed the ‘Super Clash’ or ‘Super Classico,’ has seen various banter from fans of both sides and even the players.
Ahead of the game, Asante Kotoko defender Joseph Ablorh made certain remarks that neutrals may describe as cocky, but fans of Kotoko would refer to it as facts.
Ablorh joined the Kumasi-based Kotoko in July 2024 from Guinean side Hafia FC, where he claimed have met better strikers than Hearts of Oak’s.
“It will be easy for me. This will be my first time playing Hearts of Oak because they don’t have good strikers. I have faced good strikers outside, so Hearts will be easy for me,” Ablorh said.
Fan will be eager to see how exactly easy the ‘Super Clash’ will be for Ablorh and his Kotoko side when they welcome Hearts of Oak on Sunday at 3 PM.
