UFOA A U17: Guinea, Guinea Bissau, and Sierra Leone disqualified

Date:

The national men’s under-17 teams of Guinea, Guinea Bissau, and Sierra Leone have been disqualified from the UFOA A U17 tournament.

Following the revelation of the aforementioned countries failing their MRI tests, the organizing committee of the tournament scheduled to come off this year in Senegal therefore decided to deem them ineligible to compete.

Senegal, The Gambia, Liberia, Mali, and Mauritania will now be competing amongst each other for a place at the U17 AFCON.

“The Organizing Committee of the UFOA A U17 Tournament, Senegal 2024 informs the public that the CAF medical team has notified it of the results of the MRI tests of the teams participating in the UFOA A U17 CAN eliminatory tournament. The MRI tests revealed that three (03) teams had exceeded the number of ineligible players.

“As a result, the new rule set out in article 27.4 of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations regulations will be applied to these U17 national teams. This new rule states: 27.4. If, after carrying out the eligibility test (IRM) for a participating team, four (4) or more of its players are deemed ineligible, the participating team will be disqualified.

“Consequently, the U17 national teams of GUINEA, GUINEA BISSAU and SIERRA LEONE are disqualified from the UFO A CAN U17 qualifying tournament. (2024 Edition),” the Organizing Committee of the UFOA A U17 Tournament read.
