Former broadcaster Joachim Awuley Lartey, widely known as “Joe Lartey” or “Over To You Joe Lartey,” will be laid to rest Today, Friday September 20. He passed away on April 26, 2024, at the age of 96.
The burial service will take place at the State House forecourt, followed by a private interment from 6am- 11am.

Joe Lartey was a legendary figure in Ghanaian sports journalism, renowned for his compelling sports commentary and coverage of national events. He began his career in 1961 at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation as a senior programs assistant, where he wrote and edited stories for radio.
On match days, he contributed to the sports team by summarizing games during half-time. Eventually, he transitioned to the Sports Department full-time, captivating audiences with his distinctive voice.
Lartey became a dominant voice in sports commentary, particularly in football, and was a household name alongside legends like Edward Faakye.
In GBC’s effort to provide commentary in various languages, the phrase “over to you Joe Lartey” became synonymous with his presence, as he brought matches to life and left a lasting mark on Ghana’s football culture.
