#SportsPack: No Ghanaian player compares to Asamoah Gyan – Anim Addo

Date:

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Young Apostles FC, Samuel Anim Addo, no other player compares to the legendary Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan.

In an interview on Friday, August 2, 2024, on Max FM, Anim Addo, who has been the manager of the former Ghanaian international for over a decade, insists not even the Argentine great Lionel Messi could match up to him.

The former Liberty Professional player featured in the biggest leagues in Europe before moving to the United Arab Emirates to play for Al Ain FC in a loan move that former Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn described as beneficial to both parties.

From scoring on his debut for Ghana against Somalia in 2003 to his last in 2017, he became the highest goalscorer for the four-time AFCON winners.

Gyan became the top African goalscorer in World Cup finals history when he scored in Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in Brazil in 2014, surpassing Cameroonian legend Roger Mila.

Anim Addo admitted he has learned a lot from Asamoah ever since they began working together, as he attributed humility as a trait the younger football generation should pick from the Ghanaian sports icon.
