GWR declares Chef Smith’s record certificate fake

Date:

Following his declaration as the record holder of the longest cooking marathon by an individual, the Guinness World Record (GWR) has come out to declare the Ghanaian Millennium Chef Ebenezer Smith’s announcement as false.

According to GWR, the legitimate holder of the record was still Irish chef Alan Fisher, who cooked for 119 hours and 15 minutes.

“We can confirm this is not true. Chef Smith does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate. The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 certificate 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan from 28 September to 3 October 2023,” it said after an inquiry by local TV channel, TV3.

Chef Smith announced on Tuesday, July 2, in a press conference that he was the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon, having embarked on the record attempt in February 2024 and completed it in March 2024.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon,” he said at the press conference.

Chef Smith went as far as presenting a certificate to defend his claim of breaking the record for the longest cooking, which he claimed he cooked for 802 hours and 15 minutes to break the record held by the Irish chef.
