Executive Music Producer Kwame Mickey says Team Eternity Ghana has reached an agreement with his outfit over the sampling of the song “Defe Defe,” originally sung by veteran singers Hallelujah Voices.
He said the agreement was reached with his lawyer, Ace Ankomah, and revealed that the group would pay an undisclosed amount of money as compensation for flouting the copyright laws.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Kwame Mickey said that despite the two songs with the same title having distinct melodies, both songs have the same lines, composition, and arrangement.
Thus, he stated flouted copyright laws, stressing that “years ago, copyright even frowned on using the same song title and does not know what has changed for musicians to now use existing titles for their songs.”
Meanwhile, a statement released on July 1 by Kwame Mickey stated that the issue was amicably resolved.
“The parties have duly entered into a license agreement under which Kwame Mickey grants to Team Eternity Ghana the non-executive right to use in the new song those words derived from the existing song,” it said.
Kwame Mickey was the executive producer of the original “Defe Defe” track and had produced many musicians before traveling to the United Kingdom.
