JUST IN: Transport fares set to increase by 30% effective March 7

Date:

The Transport Operators Union and the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana have jointly announced a 30 per cent increase in transport fares, effective Thursday, March 7.

This announcement came through a press release issued on Monday, March 4, where the two organizations cited the government’s failure to adequately address their concerns as the reason behind the fare hike.

The primary issue highlighted by the unions is the continuous surge in fuel prices, which has significantly impacted their livelihoods and made it difficult to sustain their operations. They emphasized that the fare adjustment is necessary for the financial sustainability of the transportation sector and to maintain the quality of service provided to the public.

In their statement, the unions called on the government to engage with their leaders to facilitate a smooth implementation of the fare adjustments. They stressed the importance of constructive dialogue between the government and relevant authorities to address the challenges faced by the transportation sector and to implement fare adjustments that reflect the current economic realities.

Overall, the unions’ announcement underscores the pressing need for attention to the concerns of transport operators and drivers in Ghana, particularly regarding rising fuel prices and operational costs.
