Ian Maatsen has agreed to a loan move to Borussia Dortmund from Chelsea till the end of the 2023-24 season.
Before joining the Bundesliga team, the 21-year-old will sign a two-year contract extension with Chelsea.
There is no provision in the agreement for Dortmund to make the arrangement permanent.
After making significant investments during the last three transfer windows, the Blues are probably willing to sell the 21-year-old in the summer in order to abide by Financial Fair Play regulations.
Burnley made a £31.5 million offer for Maatsen last summer, but he chose to stay at Chelsea.
This season, the Netherlands Under-21s defender has only earned three starts and has made a total of twelve bench appearances.
