Boomplay Recap 2023: Wendy Shay emerges Top Female Artist

Date:

After topping Boomplay Ghana’s user insights for 2023, Wendy Shay has expressed gratitude to fans and music lovers for streaming her songs.

The RuffTown Records star clenched the position of Top Female Artist beating Diana Hamilton and Gyakie, who came in at numbers two and three, respectively.

The streaming services released the insight three days ago, and Wendy maintained her position as the number one most streamed artist in Ghana.

“I am so delighted to have topped this category two times in a row and for a third time. I want to say a big thank you to the fans; this is all them, and I don’t take this moment for granted. It means the world to me. Trust me, 2024 will be an amazing year,” she said.

Wendy’s streams on Boomplay sit at a whopping 63.8 million, and she replicated this feat in 2020 and 2022, spotlighting her knack for industry-leading hits.

The “Survivor’ hitmaker has been terrific since her debut in 2018. She has won multiple awards and nominations, breaking into Ghana’s Top 30 Influential Women in Music as per the 3Music Awards.

As the year draws to a close, music platforms worldwide are accustomed to publishing annual reports of their streaming analytics with fans, and Boomplay is no exception.

Africa’s premier music streaming and download platform, Boomplay, unveiled its yearly report of music consumption on the platform, which reflects music streaming data from local music scenes.

Tagged #BoomplayRecap2023 to signify the year under review, the report is segmented into three to focus on country, artist and user insights for 2023.

The streaming platform recorded an increase in its catalog to 120 million songs with over 10 million plus artists and 7500 plus content providers in the year under review.

The most popular music genres on Boomplay in 2023 will include Afrofusion, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Gospel, Gengentone, and HipHop & Rap.
