Eden Hazard announces retirement from football

Date:

Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from football after terminating his contract with Real Madrid at the end of last season.

The Belgian had previously announced his retirement from international competition in December of last year after being a member of the team that was eliminated from the 2022 World Cup early in the tournament.

At Real Madrid, Hazard won the Champions League, a Club World Cup, a European Super Cup, two La Liga championships, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups in just 54 games after coming from Chelsea in 2019 for £89 million.

However, many people think that his stint in Spain was underwhelming because he only scored 7 goals in 76 games across all competitions.

Hazard began his professional career with French club Lille, where he scored 50 goals in 149 games and helped the team win the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles in 2010–11.

He joined Chelsea in the summer of 2012, for £32 million, and went on to become a legend there, winning two Premier League championships and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award in 2014–15.

In 352 games for the Blues, Hazard scored 110 goals, including the winning goal against Arsenal in the 2019 Europa League final, his farewell game for the team.
